• Pack things in appropriate boxes - heavy items like books in small boxes, light items in larger boxes, and delicate items in bubble boxes.

• Wrap delicate and breakable items bubble wrap or paper, and fill leftover space in boxes with styrofoam pieces to prevent damage due to shifting during your move. These materials can be recycled so please do the responsible thing with them when you are through with them.

• Label all boxes with the name and location of the room they are going to go in. Either label boxes with their contents, or write a number on each box and keep a master list of the contents.

• Pack a separate suitcase or a box labeled appropriately for the essentials you will need immediately - toiletries, clothing, alarm clock, etc. It is a good idea to keep out a knife or something to cut the tape on the boxes, to make opening the boxes easy. You might also keep the paperwork for your move, such as your master list, your mortgage papers or rental agreement, and your moving contract out for easy reference
